Once your family is in a house or location, pause the game, hold LB + LT + RB + RT, and it will say that Spoot is now available under 'Decor Miscellaneous'. Place him on your lot, and all cheats will become available. Note: Using cheats will disable challenges and achievements. However, you will be given the option to save your neighborhood before enabling cheats so you can resume the game later without cheats enabled.

Cheat modeEasy money
Start writing novels on your computer. Write fiction novels as they take the least amount of time. They will not bring you too much Simoleons. When you write, your skill will automatically advance. If your skill is high enough, you will be able to write more novel types/genres. The most money can be made from 'Romance Novels'. You will get royalties for six weeks once you finish a book. With the 'Writing' skill maxed out, you can make approximately 40,000 Simoleons every week, which is more than the 34,800 Simoleons you can get by purchasing all neighborhood businesses, and takes less time to achieve. In three game weeks you should have a very high speed writing, 9 or 10 novels as best sellers, and 100,000 Simoleons.
No matter how many times you use an object, if you sell it the same day you got it you can get all your money back. If your Sim is poor and needs body points or something else, buy a body machine and keep selling it back to get a refund of all your money.
Easy Cooking, Fishing, and Gardening skills
This trick requires a TV with a Cooking, Fishing, or Gardening channel and a video game system. Have a Sim sit down and watch television. Switch the TV over to one of the previously mentioned channels so that the Sim can start earning his or her skill point. Then, have a second Sim go over and start playing video games. Notice that although the TV is displaying video games, the first Sim still has the skill meter above their head. Allow this Sim to sit there for as long as they please until they decide to do another activity of their own. After that, the skill meter should stay above their head until you start another Cooking, Fishing, or Gardening skill activity. As an added bonus, you can train two skill points at once. For example, work out and both the Athletic and Cooking skills will continue to rise. If you keep repeating the steps until each skill channel has been viewed, the Sim will keep learning the three skills as he or she goes on about their daily life, and four when doing skill activities.
Free bookcase skills
Buy a bookcase, then have your Sim begin to study. Interrupt the action so that the book is placed on the ground. Sell the bookcase. The book can now do everything the bookcase could have done for free.
Increasing chance to have baby boys
Have a pregnant female Sim eat apples to increase the chance of having a boy.
Increasing chance to have baby girls
Have a pregnant female Sim eat watermelons to increase the chance of having a girl.
Increasing chance for multiple babies
To increase the chance of having twins or triplets, have one or both parents have the lifetime reward of Fertility Treatment.
Ghost baby
Set one of your female Sim's traits to Kleptomaniac. Go to the graveyard, and have the Sim steal male remains. On the second day after putting the male remains in your home, a ghost will appear at 11:00 p.m. and disappear at 4:00 a.m. It will appear every other day. Socialize with the ghost every night it appears. When you become best friends with the ghost, it will begin appearing every night. Get the 'Fertility' reward. Confess your attraction to the ghost. Ask to snuggle on the bed, and kiss him. Try for a baby every night until you start throwing up. You will now have a ghost baby that you can control.
Ghosts in your house
Go to the graveyard, click on all the tombstones, and take all possible tombstones. Return to your house, and place them somewhere in your backyard. You now have a 70% chance of a ghost or two, or even a whole party of ghosts visiting your house each night. To improve your chances, write in the epitaph 'Here Lies [Sim's name], The One Who Returns'.
Making friends
Buy a guitar. Play it to learn how to play guitar. Keep playing until you reach 5/10 level, which gives you the ability to 'Play For Tips'. When you have that ability, go to the park with the guitar in your inventory. When you are in the park, click the guitar in your inventory, and select 'Play For Tips'. People watching you will become your friends if you keep playing. The higher your guitar skill, the faster they will become friends with you.
Disable aging
Instead of using a cheat code to toggle 'aging on' and 'aging off' like in The Sims 2, you can de-activate the age in 'Game Options' under 'Options'. When you uncheck the box next to 'Aging', your Sims will no longer become older. You can also slow aging down in this menu by setting the 'Lifetime' bar. It can be set from 25 days to 960 days.
Quickly advance age
Use the following trick to change your Sim's age (toddler, child, teen, etc.) quickly. Buy a birthday cake from the grocery store, and place it somewhere on your lot. Click the cake, and select 'Have Birthday'. Then, choose the Sim to be aged. This is a good method to get past the baby stage.
Avoiding death
Go to Pleasant Rest Graveyard. Near the gate is a bush called 'Death Flower Bush'. Harvest the flower from it, and keep it in your Sim's inventory. If you die, that Sim will give the flower to the Grim Reaper and be resurrected. Although the flower will not reappear there again, if your Sim has Level 7 Gardening, they can plant the 'Unknown Special Seeds' found in the graveyard and some other places that have a chance to grow as a Death Flower. Note: Having the Green Thumb trait to revive the plant may help.
Changing your name
To easily change your name, go to the map, and find City Hall. It should give you an option to change your name during the day between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

New clothes
To get new clothes, you first have to buy a dresser from 'Buy Options'. Once there, click 'Plan Outfit'. You can put a total of three different clothes for each type (formal, every day, athletic, etc.).
Learning all guitar songs from books
Have your Sim reach Guitar skill level 5. Have a level 5 book in their inventory, click the guitar, then select 'New Song' to learn it. After reaching Guitar skill level 6, do the same thing with a level 6 book. Repeat the process until the Sim reaches Guitar skill level 10, and they will know all songs that were taught.
Creating brilliant paintings or masterpieces
Create a stylized still life after it is unlocked. Choose 'Genius', and make it in the largest possible frame. You will now have a much better chance of getting a brilliant painting or masterpiece.
Building a basement
Put down staircases on a new lot to lower the terrain. Go to the bottom of the first one, and miss out one tile, then put down another staircase. Repeat this again to have three staircases. Delete the staircases. Use the 'Level Terrain' tool to level the terrain from the lowest tile. Set it as big or small as desired. Using the 'Straight Line Wall' tool, build walls around this hole so there are walls pressed up against hills. Build the room above so it covers the entire basement. Cover around the house with the 'Foundation' tool; all the slopes should be covered up. Place one tile in the top floor, then create a staircase leading down to the basement. Make two or more foundation blocks at the front of the house, and place a staircase leading up them.
Duck Time moodlet
Buy the Ducksworth of Bathington, and place it in your bathtub. When a Sim takes a bath, they will get the Duck Time moodlet which results in a +15 boost for four hours.
Getting rid of dirty dishes
Drag an empty plate into a Sim's inventory, then drag it to sell. You will not get any money, but if your Sim does not have a dish washer, it is a quick and efficient way to get rid of dirty dishes.
Strange faces
There is a glitch in Create-A-Sim mode that allows to you to make very strange faces. Go to the face designing area. Select a face part such as the eyes, and max out all the sliders one way or the other. Then, go to a different face part, and select one of the predesigned parts. Return to the eyes. The sliders will have reset to the middle, but the eyes will still look the same. This works for all of the face adjusting tabs. You can then continue to max out the size of the eyes and repeat. You can make eyes the size of dinner plates, very long cheekbones, huge noses, and more.
Hording pizza
Have a Sim call for pizza. When the pizza delivery man arrives, do not accept the pizza. The delivery man will eventually leave the pizza on the front porch, and it will never get stale. You can stack as many pizzas there as you want. If your Sims get hungry, just tell them to get a pizza from the front porch.
EA game references
When you have the video game system and your Sims play it, zoom in on the TV to see that the games they are playing are various Electronic Arts titles.
Spore reference
Have a Sim reach the top painting level to have the ability to create masterpieces. One of the paintings that can be created is that of a creature from Spore.
Easy 'This Is So Meta' achievement
Watch TV, then select the option to play video games. Play ten overall hours of video games to get the 'This Is So Meta' achievement.
Achievements
Accomplish the indicated achievement to get the corresponding number of Gamerscore points:
Sims players have been creating fan-made challenges for the games pretty much since the series began in 2001. Challenges are a fun way to mix up normal game play; instead of just creating a Sim and living out a normal life, you can play by a set of rules and objectives to try to reach a particular outcome.
Some challenges are more difficult than others, but all are a creative and an interesting way to introduce a more linear game play style to The Sims' sandbox game play.
Players have been coming up with different challenges for The Sims 4 since the day it was introduced. Here are some of the most fun and interesting challenges for the Sims 4; try them if you're bored with the game and looking to mix things up!
The Legacy Challenge is one of the oldest, most classic of Sims challenges. Players have been doing it for years, probably since the days of the Sims 1. The basic rules are pretty simple:
The legacy challenge is pretty fun for a few reasons: you get to play through one bloodline for so many generations, it's got a rags-to-riches story to it, and you can really see the growth of your Sims' home, family, etc.
Check out this website dedicated to the Sims Legacy Challenge (with rules for the Sims 4, 3 and even Sims 2!) here.
2. History Challenge
This is quite a popular challenge for The Sims 4. Created by user Cloudseeker on The Sims 4 forums, this challenge is designed to start in the 'prehistoric' age, and takes you and your Sims throughout various time periods, ending in the Modern era.
I really love this challenge- it's an extremely unique spin on the traditional legacy challenge and the creator put a lot of thought into the eras, game play and goals. A lot of Simmers really got into this challenge too (the forum post has 45+ pages of replies on it alone!), and if you're into using CC in your game, there's a lot of themed content for each of the eras, so you can make the game even more authentic!
Check out the full challenge rules here and check out some of the amazing era-themed custom content (cheetah print loin cloths for the Prehistoric Age, anyone?), here!
3. Decades Challenge
The Decades Challenge is a variation of The Legacy Challenge/The History Challenge. It's not identical to the History Challenge though, because instead of going through various eras, it's more focused on American lifestyle between 1890 to present time.
This is another one that gets major points for fun and creativity. There's challenging aspects and it stays pretty true to how life was in each of these time periods. This is another one that would benefit from downloading some themed custom content for your game (if nothing else, it's a nice excuse to give your Sims pretty Victorian dresses!).
Full challenge details are here! Historical Sims Life is a great blog which offers some custom content you can use for this challenge.
Let's change it up a bit, hey? Instead of a history-based challenge, we have this extremely fun and classic, 100 Baby Challenge! This is another that's been played through most iterations of the Sims.
This is a fun and silly challenge that lots of people love playing. You can make it gender neutral if you like by using mods (so men can get pregnant), but either way, it's a fun challenge that'll get you and your Sims out and making woo-hoo with everyone they meet.
Full challenge rules here!
The Black Widow challenge is another of somewhat scandalous nature; the main challenge is to marry male Sims, kill them, and inherit their money!
There's a few other rules and goals that go with the challenge, but that's the main gist of it. The Black Widow Challenge is one that's been around since The Sims 2 as well- can you seduce and kill all the Sims in your town? Check out the full details here!
6. Homeless Challenge
The Homeless Challenge is one that I'd actually say is a bit hard! As we all know, part of playing The Sims is making sure our Sims are happy, but it's a lot harder to do that when you don't have the typical creature comforts. For this challenge, you must:
This is another of my personal favourites. The mini challenges are unique and fun, and it's definitely hard trying to take care of a Sim who doesn't have all the necessities at hand. There's great pride when you reach the end of the challenge and see how far your homeless Sim has come!
Check out all the full details here.
Time to get a bit crazy! Literally. The Sims 4 Asylum Challenge is all about managing Sims with the insane trait. Can you do it?
This is a fun and difficult challenge; you really have to work hard to control your Sim despite their insane trait, and you also have to watch out for the other uncontrolled insane Sims in the house. I like this challenge as it's based on an in-game trait, rather than an external set of goals or objectives.
Full challenge details are here!
8. Apocalypse Challenge
Sims fans have long wished for an official post-Apocalypse expansion pack (think The Sims + Fallout), but the closest we've ever gotten was Sims 3: Into the Future. The Apocalypse Challenge, however, lets you use your imagination and pretend that you're living in a post-war world!
I've seen a few variations of this challenge online, but all of them have to do with survivalist living and gives you some unique restrictions on typical game play.
Check out the full challenge details here!
Which challenge are you most looking forward to playing?
This is another HUGELY popular Sims 4 Challenge- probably in part because everyone loves Disney-related things, and also due to the fun and creativity of the challenge. The challenge was created by Playingwithmah over on the Sims forums, and is available for both The Sims 3 and the Sims 4. In The Sims 4, you must:
This challenge has a lot of fun goals and objectives and allows you to get a bit fun and creative with replicating the looks and lives of the various Disney Princesses. There are 10 Generations/Princess in total, but there's some extra alternative Princesses and goals that you can add or switch out, if you desire.
Check out the full challenge here!
The Build-A-City Challenge (also known as BACC) is a somewhat-complicated challenge which includes traditional legacy-style game play elements with building/creating a city of your own in the game.
As I said, this one is a bit complicated- lots of rules and things to unlock- but I know lots of people who love this challenge and really enjoy playing it!
There's a website dedicated to its rules and regulations and you can check it out here!
If you're not really in the mood to set in for a long, legacy style challenge and if you like playing in Build Mode, the One Room, One Week, One Theme Challenge may be just for you! Created by Rosemow on the Sims Forums, this challenge is a bit different from the others, but still allows for lots of creativity!
I really like this challenge as it's one that you can complete relatively easily (especially compared to the longer/more involved challenges), gives you a chance to show off your building skills, and you can get really creative with the themes. Besides, decorating rooms is one of the best part of the Sims!
Check out the challenge thread here!
The next few challenges are based off some great reality TV shows, and what better place to start than with The Bachelor/Bachelorette Challenge?
You can add or change any of the rules you want with this challenge, or try to recreate your favourite season of the Bachelor/Bachelorette, whatever you'd like. This one is great for a more social/romantic-based challenge, or fans of The Bachelor franchise!
Check out the full challenges rules here!
I recently got into the Big Brother TV shows (yeah, I know, I'm about 15 years late on this), and it really inspired me to make a Big Brother game in my Sims 4 save! The Big Brother challenges have been going on since The Sims 2, though!
I love this challenge; it's a lot of fun and you can see just how well your Sims take care of yourself and develop friendships without your input. It's interesting watching the different personalities, and is a lot like watching the actual Big Brother TV show. This challenge is great if you want to have a more hands-off playing experience, too.
Full challenge rules are here!
I'm a big fan of Gordon Ramsay and Masterchef (USA), so I was so excited when I saw this challenge. Created by SimDougnut on Tumblr, this challenge allows you to challenge 5 Sims and find the 'master' chef.
If you like the cooking skill in game or are a fan of Masterchef, this is definitely the perfect challenge for you!
Check out the full challenge rules here!
Have you played a challenge in The Sims 4 yet? Which one are you most looking forward to playing? Let me know!
When I am reading thru a new challenge suggestion I look for a few key items:
What is the story behind the challenge? Tell me something to make me interested in reading more about the challenge. Is it based on another existing challenge? Is it a complete challenge with a beginning, middle and end? How do I start, how do I play and what is the ultimate goal or how do I 'win'? Do the rules or guidelines seem reasonable and can goals set by the challenge actually be achieved? Has the person posting the challenge play tested it? By posting a challenge on a blog or in the forums it is much easier to discuss and ask questions. When updating a challenge or change the guidelines just edit the thread where it is posted. Starting too many threads on the same challenge or subject only adds to confusion and leads to information being lost. These are only suggestions and offer a view of how I - as one person - review challenges. Thank you for your time. Edit: Use spell check and complete words to make reading your post more pleasant and easier to understand.
I've been an avid Sims player for years, and I've learned that The Sims 3 is a game with infinite capabilities. It is a complete virtual world, and the possibilities for fun are endless. Nowadays, we just don't have the time to try them all, so here are 10 of my favourite things that will complete your gamingexperience.
Note: Some of these activities will require expansion packs.
1. Complete the 10-Generation Legacy Challenge
If you don't know what the Sims Legacy Challenge is, you're missing out on a huge part of playing the game! Typically, the legacy challenge is a 10-generation challenge in which you strive to raise 10 generations of Sims. The challenge starts with the creation of a founder, who lives on an empty plot of land with a very small amount of money.
In this challenge, you are restricted from using cheats. This makes it much more difficult, as we Simmers (fans of The Sims series) are so accustomed to them.
If you have already mastered this challenge (and bravo if you have) there are many interesting variations that you should try out!
Variations on the Legacy Challenge
The following challenges are creative variations of the original 10-Generation Legacy Challenge. Try them all for some added difficulty and hours of entertainment.
I'm Surrounded by Idiots
This challenge is extremely funny. You must create a family, but you are only allowed to control one Sim (the torch holder). It is really interesting to see what your Sims get up to without your control! I love this one because I get to see the personalities of my Sims.
Differences in the Family Tree
This is a very long 15-generation challenge that has many rules and goals for each generation. There are many different paths to take, and it's great for those who are persistent.
A Round Robin
In this challenge, you rotate through different Sims and play each one for about a week. A really good twist on this one is to play with another person, alternating weeks. If you're writing a story, two different authors, ideas and perspectives can make it very interesting!
A Genetic Legacy (Prettacy/Uglacy)
In these two legacies, you aim to have completely different genetics when you reach the end. In a Prettacy, you start with a hideous Sim and aim for a beautiful one after ten generations. In an Uglacy, you do the opposite!
A Rainbowcy
This is not much different than an ordinary legacy. In a Rainbowcy, however, each generation has a specific colour that is used to decorate the house, the Sims' clothing, etc.
I know this is something many Sims players avoid simply because it is really quite hard and takes many grueling hours in front of the screen. That said, it is a rewarding experience knowing that your Sims are living in a house that you built from scratch. Even if all you can manage at first is a simple box house, just look for inspiration and building tips online and you'll soon be building grand mansions of your own! I often scour YouTube for inspiration myself. Rocketdmg11, ChrillSims3 and Curtis Paradis are three of my favourite designers on YouTube.
There are limitless options when it comes to designing and furnishing a house with all the content that EA provides. This is especially so with the use of Custom Content. You can see more info on that at the bottom of the article.
3. Create Your Simself
What could be better than being able to control your own life, cover to cover? Creating a Simself is something every player should try. Whether you recreate your present life or make a completely new one is up to you!
Personally, I think it's really fun to create a Simself in the neighbourhood, but then leave them up to their own devices while playing with another family. It's interesting (and occasionally horrifying) to see what your Simself gets up to on their own!
Hopefully, they won't make too many mistakes. This probably works best if you have Twallan's Story Progression installed in your game. Otherwise, your Simself won't get up to too much. You can see more info on that at the bottom of the article.
Also, if you have the Pets Expansion Pack, you can even make your own little cat, dog or horse! Imagine being able to cuddle your pet in real life and in The Sims!
Sims 3 Challenges List Without Mods4. Create a Story
Whether you choose to document your legacy or a story, it's a great idea to get a blog started. The game's blogging community is very active, and sharing your stories is a great way to brush up on your writing skills and make a few friends. Tell the world the story of your Sims and show everyone just how creative you can be!
A narrative supported by beautiful screenshots can make for a very immersive experience. There are many places to start a blog, with the most popular being Wordpress, Blogger and Live Journal. The Sims 3 website is also a great place to start.
Taken is one of my favorite stories.
A lot of people are under the impression that the Legacy Challenge is one of the only challenges made for this game, but in actuality, there are thousands to choose from! Here are some I recommend:
The Mythical Creatures
In this challenge, each of the ten generations is a different type of mythical creature with different rules to follow, e.g., Generation 1 is the vampire generation and Sims are not allowed to leave the house during the daytime or they die. It is a very interesting and complicated challenge with many rules and goals.
Apocalypse
This challenge begins in a post-apocalyptic world in which your Sims have to complete certain tasks throughout the generations to unlock 'restrictions' that have been placed on them.
Cinderella
In this challenge, Cinderella lives with her step-mother and step-sisters. She has to cook and clean up after them all on top of going to school and living in a shed behind the house. You live out Cinderella's life and help her find her Prince Charming!
With the addition of Ambitions and Showtime, there are some great careers that you can control. Everybody should try all of the Ambitions and Showtime careers. It's great being able to actually control your Sims at work.
Each career in the game offers new uniforms, rewards and interactions. Each and every job has its own surprises too—I guarantee it. Explore various careers in your playthrough to take advantage of these unique benefits!
Unique Career Benefits
Mastering the Criminal career (Emperor of Evil) makes your Sim glow an evil red colour, while mastering the Culinary career gives you a fridge that boosts the quality of all meals cooked from it.
Did you know that the colour of the Sims' ghosts is related to how they died? For example, a Sim who died of old age becomes a white ghost that sparkles, and a Sim who died of electrocution becomes a yellow ghost with electricity running through it.
Considering there are so many ways to die in TheSims 3, it is rather a feat to have ghosts of all colours.
8. Create a Homeless Family
Creating a homeless family makes for a brilliant story. Imagine your Sim living on an empty lot with just some trees and perhaps a park bench. They would have to scavenge in others' houses since they don't have anything of their own.
It is fairly difficult, but makes for an interesting challenge. Give it a shot!
Alice and Kev is a brilliant example of this challenge. It is a heartwarming story about a homeless man and his daughter.
From adopting a unicorn to becoming a Master Thief, there are many different lifetime wishes that Sims can strive towards. Every player should try to complete them all! Some are easier than others, but they'll all be fun to try, so take a shot at it!
Note:
Once your Sim has completed their Lifetime Wish, they will not be able to have another. To complete them all, you must use different Sims.
10. Try All the Traits in the Game
Traits are what make every Sim unique. With each one comes new interactions and personalities for your Sims!
One of the most interesting things to do in the Sims 3 is to give a Sim random traits, (or really awful ones to make it a lot more fun!) and set the Sim on 'free will' to see what they'll do! I'm sure that there'll be a few surprises in there. Trust me on that!
My personal favourite traits include Insane and Absent-Minded. What are yours?
Use this table as a reference when exploring various Sim traits in your playthrough.
Additional In-Game Content
Here are things that some players use to enhance the quality of their game. You don't need to use all of them, but adding a couple can make a big difference in your experience.
If you do install mods or Custom Content, you will need to keep track of all of them and perform routine checks as you install new updates and expansions. Though not everything out there is completely safe, most Simmers don't have problems with the websites below. If there are problems, they will usually result in game glitches, which don't pose any real threat to your computer.
Mods
A mod (modification) adds content or changes gameplay mechanics. Installing a mod can enhance features that are already great, or increase replayability with a complete overhaul.
Twallan's Story Progression
This is an absolute must-have if you are installing mods for your game. Normally, your neighbours simply stand around in the houses and do nothing while you are playing. But with this story progression, they finally do things! They have enemies, develop love interests, get married and have children all on their own. The best part is that you can receive notifications regarding all the exciting things that happen with other families. If you find that annoying, you can always turn it off.
Custom Content (CC)
CC includes things like brand new clothes, hair and furniture. The pre-set choices in the game are pretty limited, especially if you don't have many expansion packs or buy from EA's online store.
CC only occasionally requires payment. But even if you have to pay, it is well worth it. Many of these content creators are truly talented and share great work that makes your game look much nicer. Be careful, though! A lot of CC is buggy and conflicts with the game, so you have to be careful where you download from. Here are a couple of resources that I have downloaded from safely:
Mod the Sims
MTS is a huge online community where people upload their creations of mods, custom content and poses. There is a lot to choose from. If you are writing a Sims 3 story, poses and CC are extremely helpful in portraying characters and scenes. But before you download anything, be sure to check that the content is up to date. If it has not been updated recently, it will probably not be compatible with the latest expansion packs and patches.
Anubis Under the Sun
Anubis does amazing retextures of hair and clothing. This is one of the most high-quality and safe resources to download from. It also has content for The Sims 4.
Lotus
Lotus has some of the most beautiful hair designs I have ever seen, and I have downloaded many things from here. Not once have I had a problem with my game!
Ace Creators
Ace Creators are four very talented Sims 3 CC makers that make great hair and clothing. Their pieces are stunning!
Store Content
This can be a little pricey but some of this content is definitely worth downloading even if you also use custom content. They sell many amazing worlds and premium content on here as well as furniture and extra Create-a-Sim content for your game.
Even if the things on here are expensive, some of the premium content and new worlds are worth buying as they do add new gameplay.
Complete Your Gaming Experience
Now that you know some of the most fun, interesting or just plain weird things that you can do in The Sims 3, it's time to get playing. There are endless possibilities to be explored, so don't be afraid to stray from these 10 things. Utilize your creativity to make the most of your playthrough!
What are your favourite things to do in 'The Sims 3'? Post your thoughts!
